hehe..Just wait for the day when I have collected enough epic ret pally gear, respec, and watch me climb above you on the damage meter, while I laugh, you T.T
But seriously tho, I think ret pallies can have decent dps, but it takes much more effort and time.

Yeah, you guys want all hybrids to heal but not all of us rolled a hybrid to soley heal :P Notce the word "hybrid" means you have a choice of doing several things :P

Half the issue is our red headed step child ret mentality. Most ret builds believe they need the "warrior" gear. Thus when fully geared out, they do respectible white dps, but not enough to justify themselves in place of a normal DPS'er.
Shaman in enchanced did the same thing for a while, look at them now.
A paladin that properly builds a mix of white/spell damage can hit and beat many regular dps'ers.
In Myrid's ret gear, I run 1850 attack power, Melee crit at 24%, Spell crit at 22%, +654 spell damage (able to hit 854 if I swap out attack power for more spell), and around 8k mana. Average white hit is around 1k, white crits at 1.5-2.0k, doubles at 2.6 ish (highest so far). On top of that SoC crits on average about 1500, double crits as high as 3k.
I have been able in kara to easily keep up with the top warlock/rogue/hunters. (lock was full T-4, very well designed leet skeet player). IN addition, a ret paladin using crusader strike is able to refresh -all- paladin judgments. -THIS IS KEY- since they do add -solid steady- dps + they can single handedly maintain Light,Wisdom, And Vegence (for long fights) this means any paladin in melee range can unleash a 1-2k crit judge for 145 mana cost). The added fact that you then have a constant costless heal stream of Light being proced by melee/range + mana regen procs (wisdom) for all ranged/Pali/Shaman etc, easily adds to their value.
Much as guilds are starting to use Prot paladins as tanks, enchanced shaman as dps, we can add to our strength be allowing a -well- built, -smart- paladin to run the role.
In my case, I realized early on -MY- value was in healing. I have a knack for pulling off the odd miracle save, and as ulcer creating frustrating as a healer can be, I love it.
If we had enough healing to replace me on the odd run, yes I'd love to play ret for a 2 week period, blow off steam and then go back to healing.
Pure dps classes tend not to get it. Healing is a -very- demanding job, It like tanking decides the outcome of the night, and it can be very stressful, especially with nubs yelling on vent to heal them. (like we don't know that already. We have heal priority. If you are dying and by that I can keep the tank up, L2bandage/Pot/Die). (perfect example curator for g-2. I had the chance to save shaved, chose not to, why? The tank and the lock needed it more, and at that point the lock's dps was higher, and the tank.. well duh no choice there. Did I like having him die? hell no. But it was a choice). Taking a break to dps for a week or 2, will not kill the kara run (unless we are more shallow in talent than I guessed, which I doubt).
Ret has a lot of value to a competent raid. Just requires 2 things: A: The ret paladin know how to gear/play the class for all its strengths. B: The guild has to take a breather and realize there is more to a ret paladin than a 2 year old swinging his epeen. And recognize the utility of the spec.

This is 100% correct. The warlock was more useful on curator himself, and having passed the add stage made him more important than me. Clearly Furin has a more important role in a fight than me also.
So I burned my pots, cookies, and even bandaged and feigned to try to get a few more shots on the robot douche before I went down.
In the end our leet skeet paly dps finished him off! Healers have melee weapons for a reason, and I found that out on Friday.
