MOST paladin's healing in a raid will be the "regular" raid spec.
ie at least 41 points into holy, and at least 11 into protection (for kings and imped aura's) the remaining 9 tends to get split between prot and healing indiscriminatly (sometimes without much fore thought for the raiding purpose)
Something our group (G2) has found useful is to have a paladin of my spec around. 52/9/0 (pick up imped dev aura for tanks, imped BoP for clothies (timer helps a lot).
So why 52 points into holy???? Well I'll tell you why: +5 points extra = 3 (pure of heart) imped resistance to curses/diseases helps save you'r own mana with cleanses. = 2 imped (Purifying power) makes you the go to guy for cleansing, as much as others hate doing it, I do it to save them teh trouble and the raid) +1 Aura Mastery (+40 yards helps incredibly for ranged fights ie Prince) +2 unyealding faith = a healer that isn't feared (works far more often then the stats show it seems) +3 Blessed life (sure I could snag kings with these points, however every raiding pali seems to have it so no loss) This allows me to stack on more + heal + intelligence gear in trade off for stam.
That is where I spend my extra 11 points. Yes 90% of raiding paladins choose to spend those points in prot (as they should it does help a LOT). However a Purely raid healing oriented player can definatly use this spec quite effectively.
The IMPORTANT thing to remember, this is NOT a cookie cutter spec. This is a spec designed to work within the confines of a certain raiding party. Ie with myself and Zcommie + epic I -KNOW- I can drop the extra prot points as epic has the imped aura's + kings (being that he is a tank). So I am free to choose my own spec.
Always, always work within the confines of your raid. We are a multi role class for a reason, we can plug glarring gaps in our raids ability and survivability with at least 10 (that I have used and know) different builds for different raid groups.
Just a little insight into G-2's Loose cannon healer.
