I. Introduction
a. Why a Feral Druid?
-Many people find feral druids useful, in many different ways, for example the mangle debuff increases rogues dps, also Leader of the Pack and Improved Leader of the Pack are big help in groups with alot of non-caster dps.
b. Pros and Cons
Pros
-Alot more druid based gear with the release of the expansion.
-Ability to be MT, dpser, or offhealer
-Highly Desired in Groups
-Simpler Tanking Set Up than warrior (i.e. No need to spam moves such as shield block)
Cons
-Carrying ALOT of different sets of gear
-Knowing the kind of stats for each set.
-Lack of Ability to see mana while in form (without mods)
-Lack of desirability to dps
-Lack of Feral Cat Gear
c. Group Roles
Tank
-Tanking isn't too difficult but you have to be completely aware of what is going on around you at all times. That is crucial. For the most part for tanking, you use maul at lower levels to hold aggro, but as you begin to enter your 50s, start using mangle as well as maul. And once in the 60s you begin to just non-stop spam lacerate and mangle. For the most part your job is to make sure no one is getting hit except you, meaning if someone dies while you are tanking unless they are off-tank it is your fault for not holding aggro.
Dps
-Your dps is very similar to that of a Seal Fate, Combat Dagger rogue. For the most part your dps works as follows:
1.Mangle
2.Shred till Mangle debuff wears off the opponent (then remangle) or until 5 combo points are reached.
3. If target is bleedable Rip else refer to step 2.
As you can see dpsing as a feral druid is very simple.
Off-Healing
-Off healing is usually done in Hybrid type gear, for example our Dungeon Set 3 (http://www.wowhead.com/?itemset=637) or our feral arena set. The reason we wear a set such as this for off-healing is because we can pop out midfight and heal, in this gear. And dps when not needed to. With anykind of healing as a Feral Druid you mostly want to stick to using healing touch and life bloom due to the mana inefficency of Regrowth and Rejuvination.
II. Feral Druid Make Up
a. Stats
Tank (5-Mans)
-Druids are entirely based around their high armor. Followed by that you want plenty of stamina, agility and strength. Since druids are entirely based on strength for aggro at lower levels you will want plenty of that.
DPS
-As a druid you will want plenty of Crit Chance 25% about without leader of the pack. So crit rating and agility are on high priority till you hit that amount at 70. Then you want ALOT of strength which is our main source of attack power. Other than that just get enough stamina to live.
Off-Healing
-Ummm... Stamina, Strength, Agility, Attack Power, +Healing, Intellect, Mana/5. Yeah... Okay have fun with that...
Tanking (Heroics/Off-tanking Raids)
-This requires a completely different set of gear. You want ALOT of stamina, and enough defense to have 425 defense so you can be uncrittable. However you still want 18,000+ armor. Other than that stack alot of agility.
b. Builds
As for builds the most common one tends to be:

III. Misc Tips & Tricks
1. Mana per 5 is better than spirit for healing
2. Down Rank Heals as much as possible
3. Bash+Shiftout+Regrowth/Innervate is very powerful in a pinch while tanking.
4.Get Omen of Clarity
5.On boss fights you know you won't have to off heal, take advantage of Furor by shifting out of cat form then shifting back in for an instant 40 energy.

On boss fights you can't possibly know if you'll need to offheal or not, so I think to say to abuse shifting and waste all your mana for one mangle is not worth the surviveability of the group.

Your correct with the first one it is, but it isn't a typical raiding spec. As for the second one, you are missing "Survival of the Fittest" which is a core druid tanking talent it lowers the minimum defense to 425 to be uncrittable as opposed to 490 defense which is what it would be otherwise. And I agree with you on the last statement, I personally don't find it worth it to do, usually.

The surviveability spec isn't for raiding. It'd be useless to raid with. It's a pvp spec branched off the original level 60 druid spec that only had 20 points in restoration. And survival of the fittest is a poor talent choice unless you're actually going to be tanking. Which alot of druids are all /emo about for some odd reason.

P.S: People don't hit druids cause they hit like trucks, every class can do that. However every class can't instant full heal themselves and retain 20k armor. Druids are hated cause they can survive and just slowly eat you.

The reason alot of druids are /emo about tanking is because alot don't want to tank since they have tanked all through BC. I personally have been tanking on my druid back when druid tanking was laughed at, I have tanked every 5-man instance on shirla and I can safely say I love it.
