Many of you witnessed the consequences of my decision to let Shirla run the raid last night (Tuesday). They included a /gquit from someone who I consider on my "list" for G2 (not to mention, a friend), an angry shower of obsenities in guild chat from another staple G2 member, and a lot of questions from the other officers.
Obviously, none of this was my intention. And I certainly didn't expect a reaction like the one I got.
I'll briefly describe my intentions and motivation behind my decision because I think it's important to understand "Why?" I did what I did. But I want you all to know that I'll be running the G2 raids from now on. No more QQ after this post. I promise.
So, what was it all about?
1) Our guild is growing, and dramatically so. This is good, really good. The problem is that G1 is pretty much set. They don't have room for anyone else, so people don't expect to get in.
In the time we've been raiding (a little over a month), the number of healers and dps I turn away every raid night has quadrupled. It reached a point recently where I would have 3 people asking to fill the last healer slot and 5-6 people asking to fill the last dps slot.
I was getting stressed out turning away so many competent players while I waited for a "G2 regular" to log on. I thought it might be nice to have someone else deal with the drama one night.
I was wrong; the drama was mine to deal with anyway. Shirla wasn't aware of how many people would be upset if they didn't get to go, and they were upset with me- not him. I don't blame them. It was unexpected and in bad form.
I apologize.
2) The second reason was far less selfish, and somehow I was rewarded with my intended result. I was sick of feeling like the group was goofing off and relying on two or three people to play at the top of their game and basically carry the raid.
It seemed like a lot of people were content to just sort of tag along and get a shot at loot. Let me make this clear: That is not how a group finishes Kara. It was obvious to me after some of our "deeper" runs that we had far too much goofing off during combat, and that without the coordination and mutual trust that G1 has, we would not complete the Shade fight like that.
I want G2 to do well. So I wanted to see the key players of our team step up and share leadership. That happened last night, so I don't feel like I have to test that all week. I just needed to see it once without asking for it.
I'm proud of our group, and I look forward to continuing to build it toward Prince and joint 25-man raids with G1. We have some great players.
So, that's it. Sorry about the wall of text. This was complicated, and I want the best for G2 and the rest of the guild. **** happens. I just hope G2 will have its regulars on Friday.
hey as always....feel free to replace me if say i'm taking the spot that could be filled by a better healer...i know i'm not that great....i enjoy raiding but i enjoy more the interaction with everybody else in the guild....but that could be because of my limited amount of human contact i get ouside of work.......when we get enough people to run a group 3...if that is in the guilds plans....i have no problem be apart of that group. but anywho....i should be on friday night if i am needed. i'll try and spend some time tonight trying to get my alch up to 300.....if there is anything else i can help the guild out with....let me know...
and just as a reminder...not knowing where to put this....lol. I am unavailable 06/29 and 07/01 for raiding because 06/29/07 is when i close on my house and will be moving in all weekend and don't know if i'll have the internetz up and working yet or not. so i just might work on farming mats and topping off my alch skill this week. so yea....i need to do a black moras run this week for my elixir mastery quest....but yea....just wanted to let y'all know that ahead of time.
Sorry about tuesday night. I have JUST installed a new power supply... yeah apparently my new 512 meg card, + new surround sound card + new MB pushed the wattage of my power supply over by close to 50% lol... /ugh
Anyway $40 bucks later and one raid missed, I am up and running again.
After our prince attempt last night I had the same age old raiding thoughts come to mind.
I realize we are a "everyone gets a fair shot at loot" group, however in practicality of progression this tends to be a bit flawed. One supporting bit of evidence is in fact the prince. (and epici I mean no offence by this, I cheer your loot roles as much as anyone :) Our Off tank got "very good" tanking gear, while our MT has recieved zero items in a long long time. This negates the ability of a group to progress, "zomg we have healers for that nub l2p", and that attitude will get us exactly zero prince kills. We have ONE mt, that is there -every raid-. Thus our advanement is pinned on how well he can survive between those nasty hits and the heals needed to keep him up.
long story Short. Gear out MT to the exclusion of mt's melee dps (wars etc). The less damage he takes, the further we can progress.
If this means the Raid leader focus's on sending loot to furin. Do it. Epici might have to wait a bit, but he doesn't roll against the war on t-4 anyway so he's fine. Priests and locks, yes they need upgrades, however the main focus should be furin.
Overheal as a tactic, is rather "brute force" and mana in-efficient (and tends to fail if the group has to move a good distance to avoid elementals). Self heal interupting works far better, but isn't currently viable with furins gear (no offence to furin, but that guy hits like 12 mack trucks on crack).

p.s. This is not aimed at anyone who has won loot or rolled on loot. Our G2 Group is pretty free with loot rules, and as such you have DONE NOTHING WRONG :). I am just stating an obvious weakness as I see it.
There has been a lot of discussion about the very thing you have mentioned recently. You aren't the only one who has taken notice of some flaws in our setup, but I know many of us are new at this whole raiding thing. I'm pretty confident it will be sorted out soon. Right now we just have to pull together and nail Prince to the wall tonight.
Hehe No arguments there furin. if we get the right "set of circumstances" ie healers don't have to shift very far, he is still doable.
And I appreciate the way loot is handled. It avoids "Drama".
Perhaps a way to aid you would be to set a wish list for our mt. Have you sit down and list the full set of armor you will need out of kara to be "geared".
then it doesn't look greedy it is just a mission we as a group are aimed at.
For us healers it is already sort of that way. Commie wants the hammer (healing) from Maiden for looks, and stats he favors (being a critadin), While my build is pure brute force heals, thus I am after the hammar off Prince. We have sort of agreed not to roll against each other, and to force smoltz to dc when they drop (lol j/k).
Anyway, I just want this group to progress rapidly and easily. And well geared tanks help A LOT :)
No, you were spot on Myrid. The fact of the matter is you can't make everyone happy all the time. There's often a difference between what someone wants and what the raid needs. I think that's what he meant about fairness. A fair loot distribution system is not the path to raiding advancement, simply put. I think we've all seen that happen over the last few weeks.
Anyway, Prince tonight! Woot. I'll be home at 10:30ish server, like a half hour or so early and ready to rock.
My two cents on your whole issue with tank gear is that. Look I'm far more geared than Berann. But simply put, he gets any tanking gear that drops now. Like there's no competition it's a win/win scenario that pretty much just requires patience more than anything. Like the raid appreciates the priests/druids/Berann passing on gear in order for me to achieve it and allow the surviveability of our raid.
shaved...and the guild.... i want to apoligize for my leaving on such sudden notice.....but...all i can say is wife aggro ftl. trust me it wasn't my idea to close my account....if you call deleting all your chars as closing.....but unfortunetly this is what happened and i'm sorry for doing this to y'all....it was fun while it lasted....
Luv and I always talked about our healer corps as being made up of the most mature, solid players we could ever hope for. Smoltz, you were part of that team, and your slot will not be filled easily.

As far as all the loot stuff that's being discussed, i think we're all in agreement...Furin must progress for our raid to progress. I know it may not be 'fair', but we're not here to get some epics and then leave the guild. Like shaved said, our goal is to get kara on farm status. I think what pink said was right on, it may seem gay in the begining for furin to get everything, but that is how we will FARM KARA. it'll just take some patience. we hav a good group and im sure nobody will really hav a problem with this. honestly though, furin is one hell of a patient guy and a damn good tank to boot. he would never say something like 'im entitled to that' or 'i deserve that' or w/e, so i will...he is ****ing entitled to loot and he deserves it. dont think so?...just ask urself, 'what happens to the raid when the main tank dies?'...u know the answer

Zmoltz.. dude... that sucks. But I totally understand. Marriage > wow. If my wife asked me to give it up to avoid fights etc, I would in a heart beat.
Speaking of which. We need to stop carrying over the raid nights. Set our 2-3 nights and stick to it. If we don't beat it -oh well-. What happened to smoltz happens to us married guys when we start raiding everynight of the week cause "we just gotta get that boss!!".
I know myself, my wife agro is getting kinda high. Its not bad if you're young, unattached, or just dating. But once you have a family it can really start to interfere with your life. (damn game is addictive and you know it :P)
As luv said "well it doesn't matter if you miss a raid or two". Which is true to a point. However when you start shifting people out it breaks up momentum of a raid group, alters the "synergy" between players, and leaves people that are "important" to raid progression out in the dark and behind gear wise. (ie I still do not know fire's heal patterns like I do smoltz and zcommie, which ends up in a lot of wasted mana)
Love you guys tons, but I may have to start drawing the line myself if the raid won't. Ie Tuesday, Friday, Sunday. and that'll be it. Or you just might lose another paladin to wife agro and reality.
Yeah i am in concurance(probly spelt wrong) umm, i think when shaved ninja'ed the helm to furin off opera i got kinda angry because he snapped at me when i was asking about the loot rules and then when he completly got rid of all the loot rules and gave the helm to furin.. well yeah i did get mad, and the other epics that i won over furin should've went to him... like rly i think i was just rolling on them out of spite >.< but yeah i completly agree with gearing out the tank.
Also i do wanna work on a ret set of gear for pvp... such things include gorehowl and crit chance rings/necks and ****ttt... just wanted to say =D
This group is so hot. 5 bosses down on Tuesday. Zero wipes. Just pwn. A few nice upgrades for some people and we have plenty of time to focus on our next victims on Friday.
Tuesday Night raid nights will be limited for me in the comming future. We are planning a big move in the next few weeks, as such I am working overtime to help pay for it all. And as much as I love raiding with you guys I <3 My pillow more :P
Friday Nights Are still wide open for me, however I'll raid as much as possible on tuesday nights (have a healer prepped to take my spot just in case i fall asleep on the KB)

Soooo went to log in today, pre-paid time has expired. Which sadly means I will be unable to play until we can afford it after the move in august (yes sadly all our resources -are- tied up). In just 2 short months my wife will be my sugar momma as she has landed herself a full time teaching contract (yay!). However with just me working, paying for everything and the move ties up 135% of our resources.
I'll miss ya guys. (and now I KNOW my hammer will drop lol)
